A Country of Laws

While China claims to be a country ruled by law, The New York Times tells us they don’t have much use or respect for lawyers. If you ever have a need for a lawyer in China, you might be better off to flee the country than get involved in a lawsuit, as many Taiwanese businessmen have discovered. This is especially true if you get involved in an argument with the “business partner” the government will make you accept as a condition for setting up a company in China. He will have government connections, or guanxi, and you will stand a good chance of losing not only your shirt but your freedom.
